NYS PTA
Be a New York State PTA Advocate!

In the FY 2024 State Budget, expected this week, New York must establish and fund a permanent statewide Healthy School Meals for All program!

A family of four making just $51,400 is over-income for free school meals.  As a result,  in NYS 470,000 children are ineligible for free school meals, but live in households earning less than a living wage.

Tell Governor Hochul and your legislators to take action - We MUST feed our school children in this State Budget.

Pelham Middle School Drama Club proudly presents Disney’s Newsies Jr. on January 27-29 in the PMHS Auditorium!

Showtimes are as follows:

  • Friday, January 27 at 7PM
  • Saturday, January 28 at 7PM
  • Sunday, January 29 at 2PM

Tickets are $15 for adults/ $10 for students/children & senior citizens and can be purchased online.

The wonderful family-friendly musical is inspired by the rousing true story of newspaper strikes in turn-of-the-century New York City. When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsies’ expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies the children from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, each newsie learns that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what’s right. Including the now-classic songs “Carrying the Banner” and “Seize the Day,” Disney’s Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit, adventure and heart.

Happy Lunar New Year!

The Year of the Rabbit began on January 22nd. For many Asian countries, including China, Vietnam, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore, Lunar New Year is one of the most important festivals of the year.

Click here for activities celebrating Lunar New Year in our area.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

The United Nations General Assembly designated January 27, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Every year the UN chooses a theme which serves as a prompt for Holocaust scholarship and deeper understanding. This year’s theme is Home and Belonging. We also recommend this Collection of Resources from Facing History and Ourselves.

Youth Marijuana Use: What Do We Know and What Should We Do?

Amid a shifting legal, policy, and public opinion landscape, we are all faced with an array of mixed messages regarding marijuana/cannabis and cannabinoids. This is particularly challenging when navigating approaches to messaging for youth, who are most vulnerable to adverse outcomes related to marijuana use. Dr. Gray will provide a scientific update on what is known about cannabis and cannabinoids, ranging from therapeutic applications to risks and harms, and will specifically focus on the implications of cannabis use during adolescent development. He will distill this information to inform recommendations for messaging, prevention, and intervention efforts to address youth marijuana use. Click here to register.
