"It is not happy people who are grateful but grateful people who are happy."
I am grateful to to be your PTA President.
I enjoyed a number of wonderful experiences of Parent-Teacher partnership in the past few weeks. From brainstorming with the marvelous and caring Ms.Gashi, teacher of English as a New Language and meeting with her former students who provide support as translators to planning with thoughtful administrators, I am happy to have all of these opportunities to collaborate with people who work hard every day to improve our students' experiences.
It is inspiring and humbling to work with parents on daily basis who volunteer for our school. Our Site Based Council parent representatives connect monthly with teachers, students and the administration to enhance the student experience. Some parents try to ensure that other parents have the information they need for their students to have the best experience possible via our Facebook Groups. Other parents are organizing lunches for teachers conference days. Parents have volunteered to sell Spirit Wear which raises funds for teacher and school resources. Parents have offered to be translators or ambassadors as needed for parents who are recent immigrants or refugees. All of this makes me grateful.
Our goal this year is to keep you up-to-date on what is happening at PMHS, ensuring that our website, newsletter, Facebook Groups and meetings connect you with valuable resources, and provide easy opportunities to get involved in a meaningful way.
This month we:
- Supported a joint trip to an art museum exhibit for students of the art program and the Black Empowerment Club
- Purchased an ad in the 2023 Yearbook to help reduce the price of the award-winning book for families
- Bought an ad in the Lend Me a Tenor Playbill to support the drama club Sock'n Buskin
Do you have ideas for the school? Want to help out, identify program opportunities, design new or support existing initiatives? Let's do it together!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Marjut Herzog, PMHS PTA President
