PMHS PTA President's Letter
NYS Pride PTSA
pride /prīd/ noun

1. a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired. 2. consciousness of one's own dignity.

Reflecting on my time as PMHS PTA President, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride in the accomplishments of our PTA Unit. A fitting sentiment this month.

During the past few years, so much of what we once considered ordinary became extraordinary and ways in which we initially made do became Covid Keepers as my dear friend Celia wrote about. Our Zoom PTA meetings saw significantly higher turnout and our membership reinforced those virtual meetings as much easier to dial into while driving car pool to and from evening activities in lieu of attending in person. We will continue to strike a balance between tradition and innovation, so please tell us what matters to and works best for you.

In pursuit of our mission, we wrote and received our first grant from National PTA to help support our families who are navigating the daunting landscape of social media. We continued our partnership with the Junior League of Pelham to co-chair our most successful House & History Tour to date, bringing the Pelham community together on a beautiful day. And we were able to continue so many of our longstanding PTA ventures, pandemic notwithstanding; and some new ones including partnering with a PMHS student to host our first ever National PTA Day of Service Event - Bella's Blood Drive, which we hope will become a new annual tradition.

Looking to the future and the 2022-2023 school year, I hope you all will join me in welcoming and supporting your new PMHS PTA President, Marjut Herzog. She has been invaluable in her role as President-elect this past year and I cannot wait to see what she will accomplish!

We have many wonderful volunteer opportunities available within the PTA and we hope that some of you will consider joining us in an active role. Please bookmark the PMHS PTA homepage to stay connected and please Please join us at our final PMHS PTA Meeting on Tuesday, June 21st at 7:00PM via Zoom.

I thank you all for your support and partnership in protecting the nest together these past two years.

Sara

Project Community
Binge Drinking: Host a House Party to Educate Your Kids and Friends

The goal of our 2-part Binge Drinking program is to reduce injury and save lives, by giving students the information they need to take action before tragedy strikes.

Unlike traditional anti-drinking campaigns, our practical presentations teach students what to do in real life situations.

Part 1: Video reenactment of binge drinking at a party which results in death from lack of intervention.

Part 2: An open discussion moderated by a certified health care professional who will correct myths around drinking, such as "sleeping it off", and provide facts about alcohol consumption and alcohol poisoning.

It's not about No. It's about Knowing what to do.
